Auto Insurance – Organized

Getting from point A to point B is much more convenient with a vehicle; make sure it’s covered. There are basically six different types of coverages. Some may be required by law. Others are optional. They are:

Bodily injury liability, for injuries you cause to someone else. (A small limit is required by MA law)

Medical payments or Personal Injury Protection (PIP), for treatment of injuries to the driver and passengers of the car. (Required, though you can elect a high deductible to lower your cost)

Property damage liability, for damage you cause to someone else’s property, including their car, building, fence, or other property. (Small amount required, higher amounts available, and recommended)

Collision, for damage to the car from a collision. (This is optional, unless you have a car loan and the bank requires)

Comprehensive, for damage to the car not involving a collision with another car (including damage from fire, explosions, earthquakes, floods, and riots), and theft. (Optional unless you have a car loan).

Uninsured motorists coverage, for costs resulting from an accident involving a hit-and-run driver or a driver who does not have insurance. (Small amount required, higher amounts available, not expensive)
