The customer went on the WEB on May 26th to make a payment to reinstate her policy. The required amount to reinstate was 132.00. She attempted to pay with a credit card but did not have enough on the card for the entire payment (card declined). She ended up paying 60.00 on the credit card, and another 25.00 via electronic check. This amount was not enough to reinstate the policy and the policy remained cancelled. On 6/3/2015, she went online and paid via electronic check, 47.00 more dollars and the policy was reinstated. On 6/8/2015, the 47.00 ACH payment was returned by the bank due to NSF. The policy was again cancelled effective 5/26/2015,for non-payment and now had new fees assessed for the NSF in the amount of 25.00. The policy has remained cancelled and the insurance company has sent unearned premium back to the finance company in the amount of 457.05 on 6/15/2015. The balance owed to the premium finance company at the cancellation of the policy is 440.81. After settling the debt to the finance company the customer is due a refund of 16.24 which is already scheduled with the next refund batch and should be mailed within 7 to 10 business days.
The customer assumed that she was due a refund of her payments that did not get returned but that is simply not the case. She was given credit for the payments in the refund calculation. A copy of the calculation is below.
Customer paid Customer owed
$85.00 $450.36 Amount Financed

Ins Co Paid $10.00 Late Fee
$457.05 $25.00 Cancel Fee
$542.05 Total $25.00 NSF Fee
$16.24 Owed to customer
